Stuhrling Original Men’s 4ATC.BEH.332P171 Alpine Speeder Lifestyles Automatic Skeleton Mesh Watch Set Review

I just received this watch after buying it in a Gold Box Deal, and first impressions are very good. The packaging and presentation are very nice for a watch at this price point (ca. 0) and the watch is pleasant to look at on my wrist. Some reviewers are talking about the bling factor, and I agree that just looking at the watch lets you know it is a little out of the ordinary. That said, it seems a little less extreme in person. The face styling with the 12, 4 and 8 positions accented in the green is playful and the watch diameter is nice. My regular watch has been a Timex Expedition and the Stuhrling doesn’t feel enormous in comparison. That said, the watch is thick, with the crown and crystal bulging upward – think porthole in a a walk-through aquarium. It’s not unpleasant, and maybe the fact the my Timex has a crystal that is dead flat makes the Stuhrling stand out all the more, but there is a sort of fresnel lens effect. If I try to read the Stuhrling from an extreme angle, the distortion from the crystal makes it almost unreadable. This is not a watch to be glanced at in frustrated, stifled boredom. It is a prop to hold up and peer at, making a point.

The metal mesh band is the one area I’ll concede to the bling worriers. It is shiny and very bright. Not a complaint, but I think more people will react with surprise to the band than the watch itself. But again, the band seems to be good quality, is sturdy feeling, and doesn’t pull on the hairs on my arm. Two other notes: the metal band is very long (as others have noted – my Timex is on the third largest setting based on the holes in the band and I have the Stuhrling on the second smallest), and you can always replace it with the leather band that ships with the watch.

I’ll update this if I have any problems with the watch in the next couple of months, but at this point I am very happy with my new Stuhrling. In a month or two it might be time to buy it a partner in one of the different colors.
